How do you know if you are not cut out for long distance running???

Question: How do you know if you are not cut out for long distance running???
they say some people are just not cut out for long distance running,

and I don’t mean marathons i mean a lot less…3-5 miles even.

first: Is it true?

and if it is then:
How do you know you are not cut out for it OR just not trying hard enough???

Because I’m 16 (no health problems, not overweight but heavy)
and I love running but some where along those 16 years (lol i know that sounds crazy but its true :s) my stamina just sunk to an all time low and now i can’t get it back up and i tried to more than once but it seems waaaay too difficult considering: I love running AND I’m still 16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know maybe I’m just not cut out for long distances because i never used to run “long distances” just a lot

sorry for writing so long but PLEASE i need any help i can get, extra info, suggestions, anything

Thank you
:$ i forgot to say ‘a lot less than’ 3-5 miles

i think my most was not a full mile even and then when i try to take it up a little bit more it just gets a lot harder :S

From personal experience honestly 3-5 miles is not too bad. If you run maybe 2 miles a day and try to improve your time then in about a month you can run 5 miles. That was my high school soccer routine and i went 90 min fine so if you put your mind to it you can do it. And i dont know your situatuon but i lost 10 lbs in the month so its all what you put to it.

Question: How long do I need to train for a triathlon?
I was thinking about doing an olympic triathlon in september. I can run about 10 miles already with out to much of a problem, so 6.2 shouldn’t be to hard. But, would 4 months be long enough to train for this. Any tips would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Oh my goodness! You can run 10 miles? Holy crap kid! I can barely run a lap around my high schools track. That’s amazing.

Sorry I can’t help. But the way you’re putting it I think that 4 months should be fine.

Remember that’s coming from a 16 year old who thinks daily exercise is walking to the post office. :)
