Question: I saw a movie where there was an academic decathlon…?
…and the students were all in a private school. one was caught cheating and the teacher figured it out and asked a question about a general who would never be in any history book. years later in the movie the same students (now grown up) were at a reunion and had the same sort of academic decathlon and the same student who was cheating was cheating again and lost getting asked the same question when the teacher figured out he was cheating again.

Question: How is Academic Decathlon?
today, my teacher nominated me to the school acadec team. I want to join it cuz it seems like a real interesting experience (so I’ve heard from around the internet), but when I looked at the official site, it says that you have to make a 4-5 min speech and a 1-2 min impromptu speech at the competitions. I’m no good at speeches! and I’m also unfortunately extremely shy.
so how was acadec for you guys who did it? was it really fun? were the speeches a big part in the competitions?

basically you read things i.e. a tale of two cities (my academic decathlon team) and then have like a quiz against other schools. i dont know about the speeches though! and it looks good for college

I’m a junior this year, an upcoming senior. I am taking 5AP Classes and 1 Honors. I have room for one more class (I’m not taking an off period). I plan on majoring (for now) in chemical engineering. I am not sure if computer science is even relevant to chemical engineering so I am not sure which course to take. Both are honors credits and both would be equally challenging so I am asking 1) Is computer science even relevant for a chemical engineering major and 2) Which would look better on a college application to selective institutions?

Computer science is very useful to study if you are planning on majoring in chemical engineering. A course in computer science will give you exposure to ways to process information, develop and use common algorithms and write programs. The way this is related is that chemical engineering involves large amounts of data that is commonly processed by computer programs.
